The other night I went to eat at an Indian restaurant with some lady friends in Leblon, which is probably about a 30min bus ride for me from Barra da Tijuca. We spent about 10 mins looking for this place after getting out of the cab. Only to find out it had closed down and there was some other joint there in it's place.
So we decided to eat at Pizzaria Guanabara. The food was alright, but the service there sucks. The waiter was pretty cold and took his time taking our orders and didn't check on us at all. Pretty much just took the order. Dropped the food on our table and that was that. I guess he doesn't have to worry about getting a tip because they include that in the bill at all places down here.
Having some Sangria at Pizzaria Guanabara.
Anyways before leaving to go to Baixo Gávea (an area where there's lots of bars and a good place to hang out on Sundays and Thurdays) my friend wanted to go to the toilet (banheiro) so went inside. I decided I should probably go to and went in to find the toilets. One sign said "Cavaleirho" and the other "Senhors". Or so I thought.
Baixo Gávea. People just standing round doing their thing on the streets or drinking in the bars. I imagine it gets more packed then this as it was raining previously that night and it was a Sunday.
When I walked into the small toilet I noticed two cubicles but no urinals which I thought was funny but took no notice and tried to enter one of the cubicles only to realise my friend was in there and that I was in the female bathroom. I said sorry and quickly exited and tried to look as casual as I could, walking past a waiter giving me the "WTF? Perve!" look and a lady with a "this dumb mofo" smile on her face to which I replied with a smile of shame and a slap on my forehead, into the "Cavaleirho" bathroom to find urinals and cubicles.
I later found out that "cavaleirho" means "gentlemen" and that the other bathroom's sign actually read 'senhorAs' and not 'senhors' as I first thought.
Moral of the story: read signs properly and learn more português!
